Which races will Mikaela Shiffrin compete in?
It’s possible Shiffrin will compete in every event at the World Championships, such is her versatility and skillset.
At the 2022 Winter Olympics, Shiffrin raced in all the races, but had a nightmare as she failed to take a medal, and surprisingly had a DNF in her two favourite disciplines – the slalom and giant slalom.
Shiffrin will definitely race in the technical events, so the giant slalom and slalom races on February 16 and 18.
She will be the favourite for the alpine combined, which is the opening race of the World Championships, on February 6.
‘I thought six wins was the most I could possibly get!’ – Shiffrin after ninth win of season
Last season, the World Cup Finals were held in Meribel, as a pre-cursor to the World Championships, and Shiffrin won the downhill and finished second in the super-G.
If that’s anything to go by, don’t be surprised to see her on the start line for both of the speed events.
The team slalom and individual parallel giant slalom on February 14 and 15, could be when the 27-year-old decides to rest instead of racing.
In theory, Shiffrin could win at least five medals, adding to her 11 World Championships medals from her already outstanding career.
When is Dave Ryding skiing?
Ryding is a slalom specialist so will be competing individually on the last day of the World Championships on February 19.
He could race in the team event on February 14, alongside compatriots Charlie Guest, Billy Major, Charlie Raposo, Laurie Taylor, and Alex Tilley.
