Nationals Leader David Littleproud says history is “repeating itself” as a Voice to Parliament-like body ATSIC previously failed at being able to “close the gap” for Indigenous Australians.
“It’ll be a representative body – that we’ve experienced before in regional remote Australia, it was called ATSIC and it didn’t shift the dial in closing the gap,” Mr Littleproud told Sky News Australia.
“Another layer of bureaucracy will not fix and close the gap for Indigenous Australians.
“History’s repeating itself, we’re simply saying, send the bureaucracy to these communities, sit around the campfires, sit around the town halls and come up with solutions to close the gap.”
