The Stronger Futures legislation was a “race-based policy” which discriminated against Aboriginal people who wanted to buy takeaway alcohol by denying them using location discernment, according to Northern Territory Chief Minister Natasha Fyles.
“A number of them have said they don’t want to opt-in. We want to manage alcohol because it is a legal product,” Ms Fyles told Sky News Australia.
“So this is the contentious issue that grog is, particularly noting the harm it can cause.”
