Tyler Posey Would Work With Dylan O’Brien Again Even If It’s Not Teen Wolf

Tyler Posey says he would happily work with Dylan O’Brien again if the opportunity presented itself, even if it’s not part of the Teen Wolf franchise.

As he makes his own way back to Beacon Hills, Tyler Posey reflects on Dylan O’Brien’s absence from Teen Wolf: The Movie and expresses his hopes to reunite with his former co-star. Posey led the cast of the MTV series as Scott McCall, a California high school sophomore whose life is upended when he is bit by an alpha wrewolf, transforming him into the titular creature, putting him on a path to protecting his hometown from a whole host of supernatural threats with the help of best friend Stiles and natural-born werewolf Derek Hale. Posey and Tyler Hoechlin are reprising their roles for Paramount+’s Teen Wolf: The Movie, in which Scott will have to gather his team of allies to face off against one of their deadliest allies, as well as the return of one major face.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight Canada to discuss the Paramount+ continuation, Teen Wolf: The Movie star Tyler Posey opened up about Dylan O’Brien not returning for the movie. When asked about possibly reuniting with the Stiles actor, Posey expressed his hopes to work with O’Brien again at some point in the future, even if it’s outside of the fan-favorite supernatural franchise. I always want to work with Dylan. And even outside of ‘Teen Wolf’, I would love to do another thing with him. I just don’t know if it’s possible because of the connection of us and ‘Teen Wolf’.

Why Dylan O’Brien Isn’t In The Teen Wolf Movie

At the time of the film’s announcement, O’Brien wasn’t the only original actor uncertain to return for Teen Wolf: The Movie, as Tyler Hoechlin was also reportedly unsure about making his return for the project, only to finally be confirmed some eight months later. O’Brien has since opened up about his decision not to return for the film, asserting that it was a “difficult” one and that he did try to make it work for his schedule, but saying that the rushed nature to get the movie off the ground left him unable to return. Despite this, however, O’Brien has been very supportive of the Teen Wolf: The Movie, saying he would watch it on its premiere night and that he hopes “it f—-ng ass“.

Many of O’Brien’s cohorts have opened up his absence in the Teen Wolf: The Movie, including Posey and Hoechlin, the former of whom noted the actor’s absence in the show’s final season while the latter recalled feeling his presence in the script. Series creator and movie writer Jeff Davis has previously confirmed that the movie will address O’Brien’s absence directly, teasing that there will be a big storyline surrounding Stiles’ love interest Lydia in the film, specifically with their relationship. While not starring in the film, O’Brien does have one unique connection to Teen Wolf: The Movie, revealing that he had to lend the production Stiles’ Jeep for it to appear, with Davis later explaining they had given the actor the vehicle on the promise that if they needed it sometime down the road, he would give it back.

O’Brien’s Teen Wolf: The Movie absence has left a lot of doubts in franchise fans’ minds about whether the film can succeed without one of its key characters. Early reviews for the Teen Wolf sequel movie have proven to be divided, with some praising its nostalgic elements while others criticize its 140-minute runtime and lackluster ending, however with most indicating that the door is left open for more stories in the future, one can hope another installment is better planned to bring O’Brien’s Stiles back to the fold. Only time will tell when Teen Wolf: The Movie premieres on Paramount+ on January 26.
