The Flash movie is going to be a pretty big event for DC, and Hollywood star Tom Cruise has been lucky enough to see a sneak peek at the movie before it releases in June. Ezra Miller leads their first solo adventure as the title speedster in The Flash. The movie presents Barry Allen going on a multiversal adventure that will see him meet alternate versions of existing heroes and villains from the old DCEU, as well as the debut of new characters. DC has great hopes for The Flash, and Cruise’s opinion bodes well for the movie.
According to THR, the person responsible for having cancelled DC’s Batgirl movie — Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav — met with Cruise and raved about The Flash. The actor got interested in the anticipated DC film, and asked to see it before release. Zaslav then had an employee bring the movie to him for a private screening at Cruise’s home. The Hollywood star is said to have loved The Flash, calling up the movie’s director, Andy Muschietti, to congratulate him. Cruise reportedly said something along the lines of The Flash being “everything you want in a movie” and “this is the kind of movie we need now.”
Can The Flash Movie Live Up To All The Hype?
Cruise’s praise lines up with James Gunn’s positive words earlier in the year. The Flash movie will reset the DC Universe, a very important job in Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the new DC. Speaking about the movie, Gunn said that The Flash is “one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.” That level of praise is significant, as the film will not only be the one responsible for setting up the new DC Universe, but will likely end up as the curtain call for a number of elements audiences enjoyed from the old DCEU.
While Gunn’s comments might have seemed hyperbolic considering the past offerings DC has had, The Flash can certainly live up to its hype, and Cruise’s words are encouraging. Multiple Batman actors, Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton, return as their versions of the Dark Knight in the film. Affleck’s role might be small in The Flash, with the actor recently saying he is in “five minutes” of the movie, however, audiences will sure be keen to check out what could be his final turn as Batman. Keaton’s return is 30 years in the making, and should provide The Flash with a wider reach of fans.
The Flash also brings back Michael Shannon as a version of his Superman villain Zod, with Miller’s Barry Allen going through an alternate take on the events of Man of Steel, as he arrives at a different Earth, in the year 2013. DC’s multiverse will be compared to the MCU, with Marvel currently making full use of the plot device. The Flash can live up to its hype by providing something the MCU’s multiverse adventures have been lacking, an in-depth exploration of alternate universes with exciting new characters.
